Attitude: The ESSENTIAL Accessory
10/11/99

Hey Kids!

Whenever you open a fashion magazine, you will find more than enough articles about "The 15 Essential Items for Fall" or "Diva Must Haves for School." In that article, a good mixture of clothing and accessories fill the pages with the hot color of the season. Who determines these "essential" items? Whoever writes the article. If you polled a thousand girls of all shapes, sizes and colors on what their favorite accessory was, the list would be rather diverse.

Some girls cherish their shoe collection (like me...although it's more of an obsession), while others are fanatical about their faces and make up is key for them. Many feel the perfect bag can make an outfit, while others still need their jewelry adorning them.

Since I'm writing THIS column, I'm going to share my "must-haves" for fall. Actually, there is really only one. ATTITUDE!! A girl could look as though she stepped out of the pages of MODE or VOGUE, but if she has a bad attitude or is not really comfortable with what she's wearing all of the Armani in the WORLD couldn't make her look good!! The key to a good attitude is to be comfortable with yourself. Look in the mirror and appreciate the beauty that you see! Find one thing about yourself that you like, and compliment yourself. I'm not saying to start talking to yourself, but rather play up that part of you. Keep in mind that it doesn't have to be a physical aspect. You could just as easily play up a good sense of humor as you could toned arms.

Try thinking about what you're wearing. If you are in a formal ball gown, you are certainly going to feel differently than if you are working out in the gym in your sporty clothes! Don't be afraid to be yourself. Express that in your clothing style as well. Buy that leopard bag no matter how silly your friends think it looks (believe me... my friends think I'm NUTS!!). When you look into your closet, you should see a reflection of different aspects of yourself in your clothing. Try not to stick to one style. Experiment! Clothing can be fun, but only as much fun as you're willing to let it be.

My challenge to you is this: go out and buy an outfit in a style that you have always wanted to wear but haven't. If your funds are low, put one together from your closet or dip into that wonderful resource of your friends' closets! Wear that outfit with pride. Walk with the attitude that you look GREAT (and you DO!) and see what a difference an attitude can make!!

C-ya next week girls,
Felicity
