Mainstream Sizes Expanding: A Clothing Revolution or Just an Experiment?

To answer the question on everyone's mind…..I'm still here! Yes, yes. It has been far too long since
my last column, but you girls all know what it's like to have a hectic life. The great news is that
I'm back with a vengeance.
Let's kick this week off with some fantastic news. It seems as though more and more companies are
opening their eyes, and merchandising lines, to accommodate larger sizes. Within the past few months,
the Gap has extended their sizes (currently only available online at www.gap.com) to include XXL and
sizes 18 & 20! Although only a small portion of their merchandise is available in these larger sizes,
it all has to start somewhere! Now you don't have to walk by your local mall and wish that you could get
the same gap flare jeans that everyone seems to be wearing these days. You can own them yourselves! Some
of my favorite picks for this season are the stretch bootcut jeans in the bright red ($48) and the
wonderfully versatile Gap trench coat ($68) in ultra violet and blue. Don't forget to check into the
Gap's sister company, Old Navy (www.oldnavy.com) for similar fashions at cheaper prices in sizes up
to 20. Their funky grapic tees ($10.50 and up) are a steal!!
Don't think the news stops there! Rumor has it that some big-name designers are testing plus size
lines of their own, available at your local department stores. Some designers, such as BCBG, have already
launched a successful large size line.
The next few weeks will be jam-packed with great tips and ideas for great stuff like catalog shopping,
fun spring fashions and the hottest new web sites! Keep your eyes out for great new columns!
