Are You Prepared to Shop?
3/12/01
Now that you've got an idea of what you want, you can actually start the
process of shopping. This week we'll talk about shopping tips and good
ideas. Next week we'll talk about dresses -- how to spot great quality
dresses for good prices.
Tips --
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING YET!
1. Get dressed to shop. Wear comfortable slip-on shoes, and an outfit that
is easy to get on and off (skip the tight-fitting slip dress, it'll make
shopping a lot more stressful).
2. Wear a strapless bra. You'll find that it's easier to spot the perfect
dress when you don't see those ugly straps. Also, if you'll be wearing a
short dress, wear a pair of stockings under your clothes. Anything that will
help you see the dress as it will look on the big night will help a lot.
3. Head to a reputable store. First, try a store like David's Bridal, which
is a popular starting point for a lot of girls.
4. Try on everything. Get an idea what looks good on you. **Don't judge
ANYTHING by the way it looks on the rack. A lot of times girls have passed
their perfect dress by simply because they didn't realize how incredible it
would look on them. (You never know until you try)!
5. When you leave the store, narrow down your choices. Did you like the
back of one dress, the sleeves of another, and the design of another? Get a
mental picture of what you want. If it helps, write it down so you can look
at it later.
6. Don't buy anything yet. There are WAY too many options out there. Like
a wedding dress, you'll only wear this once but it will be remembered
forever! Even if you feel you've found the perfect dress, you never know
until you try on a few. You'll know you've found the perfect dress if you
are thinking about it constantly while you try other dresses on. The thought
of the dress will never leave your mind, and it's design will always be your
favorite. Don't settle for anything shy of perfection!
Join me next week, after your initial shopping trip. We'll talk about
spotting a higher quality dress, an important factor in selecting your dress.
You do not want to look like you are wearing a Halloween costume! See ya
next week for some more great prom talk!
