The Runway & 29 Playboy Bunnies?
Betsey Johnson's Spring 2001 Show in New York
2/6/01
Eccentric and playful designer Betsey Johnson has been making waves in the
fashion world since she started out. Therefore, it is no surprise that for her Spring
2001 collection she was the talk of the town. Instead of choosing runway models to
flaunt her clothing, she chose 29 different playboy bunnies and her daughter Lulu.
This
is not her first year of forgoing using runway models. For two years she has instead
chosen REAL people that she gathered from her store, friends or from the New York
streets. Choosing Playboy bunnies is definitely taking the extreme of runway models
and adds a naughty and fun aspect to her collection that was inspired by the 50's.
Think of sex kittens like Bridgett Bardot and Sophia Loren wearing spandex capris, sun
dresses, bustiers and lacy nighties.
You've got to give the designer some respect for
choosing to go beyond the norm and choose the buxom beauties and her own daughter who
happily skipped down the runway in her playful clothing. Johnson claims that her
collection needed sexy, glamorous and very womanly models. Of course, most of us know
that runway models can be just the opposite of this.
