Bare Essentials to Clear Your Beach Blues
6/20/00
Bluesing on what gear to wear to the beach? Right now we're all trying to figure out what bikini
to brave out in the world when the fashion world has already moved onto Fall! That's OK ladies
because we don't have time to leap ahead a season when we have summer and bathing suits to deal with!
It's so easy to look fabulous on the beach- the whole process really only includes two main things:
an eye for accessorizing and some confidence.
When going to choose a suit, make sure it is one that covers all your goods: forget the saying
"Less is More." If it's one trauma that you don't want to face out on the sand, it's your stuff
coming out all over the place! Ladies, make sure you pick something that is comfortable (as in not
cutting into your skin!) and simple- the simpler the better. I think the best pick is something in
a solid color like white, black or something tropical and bright like orange. If you are going for
the new 60's pattern retro, I suggest you forgo much accessorizing.
To start with, the hippest thing right now is a bright retro scarf that gets tied tight around your
head with a low pony tail or loose tousled hair. Think Pirates of Penzance and remember that the
tighter the scarf, the better it looks! This little trick will keep the hair out of your face and
eyes and put you right up there with the rest of the hipsters. The matching part is simple: The
scarf you choose should be solid with a patterned bathing suit and patterned with a solid bathing suit.
To further your cool Caribbean pirate type look, add two large hoop earrings a la' Lauryn Hill and top
your bathing suit with a dark denim jacket. Rock some aviator sunglasses and you're ready to get the
party started!
If you are a little timid about baring your bottom half, forgo the scarf and go for a little hand knit
wrap with fringes (commonly found in thrift stores) or shorty-shorts in denim or any stretch material.
For your tootsies, thongs are always the best. Reef provides a variety of sandals to go with the
style of your bathing. I suggest something with very thin, feminine straps without a platform.
Well, I wish all of you luck out there on the beach. Remember, confidence is really the best
accessory you can wear! Now go get 'um, Tiger!!
